Bee Biodiversity
There are 98 bee species in Ireland.

6 of these species are critically endangered.
7 are endangered, 16 are vulnerable and 13 are near threatened and unfortunately,
3 Bee species have become extinct in Ireland within the last 80 years.

Why should bees be protected?
Bees are key species
In nature, various animals depend on bees for their survival because their food sources such as
Nuts berries, seeds, and fruits
Rely on bee pollination to grow.
If bees die off it will end most life.
What is Pollination?
Pollination is a method that bees use by throwing pollen to plants to allow them to grow!
What can we do to save bees?
  • Have a birdbath or other water supply.
  • Buy local honey to encourage beekeeping.
  • Cut back or stop using pesticides and herbicides.
  • Live with a few weeds in your lawn.
    Bees love dandelions and clovers.
  • Let a tiny corner of your garden go wild or have a wild meadow if you can.
  • Plant flowers and vegetables.
    bees prefer colours such as blue,purple and yellow.
  • If you see a swarm of bees in the spring, either leave it alone or call a beekeeper.
